August 2014: The Blind Side

glazer aotm1He has come a long ways from his days as an offensive lineman at Bridgewater College

Meet Dave!

Tell us about yourself (name, age, education, family, work, etc.):

I’m David Glazer or Dr. Dave as many of you know me as.  I’m 30 years old and live in Harrisonburg.  My wife Jen and I have been married for 7 years and we have an 18 month old son, Isaac, who means the world to us both! We also have two miniature dachshunds(aka wiener dogs!), Scooter and Ginger. After going to Bridgewater College I went on to become a massage therapist. I then went on to complete a Master’s degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation and my Doctorate in Chiropractic at Logan College in the suburbs of St. Louis, MO. I currently work at Nieder Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in Harrisonburg.

How long have you been doing crossfit?

Since the first workout at Rocktown! 5:45am on January 14, 2013

When/what was your “crossfit moment” or have you had one? (the one where you think you may actually die)

I couldn’t find the date in my workout book, it must have traumatized me that badly, haha. Anyway it was an EMOM of 10 KB swings using the 1.5 and 10 box jumps and your score was the number of rounds that you didn’t complete. I think I only completed 4 full rounds and after minute 8 I was about to walk out.

What are your favorite crossfit movements?

Overhead squats is my all time favorite! Cleans, pullups and rowing are up there too.

What movement makes you look at the white board and want to walk back out the door?

If I had to choose I would say running that is longer than 400m and abmat situps.

What are your goals?

I want to have pistols by the East Coast Championship, rx handstand pushups by the end of the year and be able to perform bar muscles ups consistently by the end of the year. Bodyweight and gymnastics movements have always been my weak point, so I want to attack them. It would also be nice to build up my endurance with running.

What motivates you to continue coming back?

I’d be lying if I didn’t mention that I love what I see in the mirror. I’ve never been able to see my abs, so that’s pretty cool. I love the competitive side of CrossFit since I’ve always been involved in sports since an early age and the olympic lifting that I hadn’t done since my days of playing football at Bridgewater. I also want be a great role model for Isaac to make fitness a big part of his life!(Have you seen his paleo chair?)

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Hmmm, can I say the entire left side of the chinese take out menu? Pizza is up there too, oh and I’m a sucker for sweets!

In your own words what is Rocktown Crossfit?

Rocktown CrossFit is a place where it doesn’t matter what your gender, race, age, background is. It is a community made up of great people that are friendly, supportive and encouraging. There have been many friendships made at The Rock that will last a lifetime!

Free Write: (anything you want to say about trainers/facilities/other athletes/etc)

I want to thank all of the coaches for supporting and encouraging me along my fitness journey. I’ve had many struggles and triumphs along with many humbling experiences. Each of these experiences are what drive me to improve my skills and determine my goals. I definitely want to thank Lauren and Nate for following their dreams and passions by opening up Rocktown, because with out them we wouldn’t have this great place to call home!

A Note from the Rocktown Staff

Dave has been a staple at The Rock since opening day January 2014.  Although his baggy t shirts and bigger frame are a thing of the past, Dave now sports a much leaner, stronger build than the Dave who first walked through our doors.  Dave is no secret to competition, as an offensive lineman at Bridgewater College he learned that discipline and hard work is what it takes to be successful no matter the task and has been a great example of both during his time at Rocktown.  This past June in his first SuperFit competition as an individual he finished 2nd place after 4 grueling workouts in what Dave will tell you were not 100% his cup of tea.  Dave has grown into a very well rounded athlete, continually attacking his weakness…there isn’t an open gym session that goes by you won’t see Dave working on his pullups, muscle ups, double unders, etc…something we should all take note of.  While all these are what make Dave an easy pick for athlete of the month, the fact that his wife has joined in on the fun and the knowledge of well being they will get to share with their son Issac as he continues to grow will be priceless…building a healthy future.  Congratulations Glazer, its been a long time coming!
