Tell us about yourself (name, age, education, family, work, etc.)

My Name is Jakob Napotnik and I am 26 years old. I was born and raised in Elkton, Virginia along with my 4 brothers. I have an amazing Wife Nicki who is my rock and my motivation. And as for work, I am a chef at the Local Chop and Grill house in downtown Harrisonburg

How long have you been doing crossfit?

I have been doing crossfit since February of last year and have been loving every minute of it!

When/what was your “crossfit moment” or have you had one? (the one where you think you may actually die)

I don’t know if i have ever had one single moment per say, its been more of a series of events and moments shared with some amazing people over the past year. For me I feel like I get a “crossfit moment” every class or workout I go to. Every day I get to experience myself and other people breaking barriers and becoming better, stronger, faster then they were the day before. And I get to witness that which is amazing to me!

What are your favorite crossfit movements?

I love anything that involves heavy weights, period. Give me a heavy deadlift or clean and jerk or a heavy ass squat and I am all for it. I am not one for any gymnastic movements, but I do love when I can kip pull-ups or toes to bar together, I just feel real cool for the 3 seconds that its happening! Also believe it or not I really like rowing…. I don’t know why, I think its because I like seeing the meters go by or something.. I don’t know.. weird haha

What movement makes you look at the white board and want to walk back out the door?

If you asked me a few months ago I would have a whole list of things for you, but anymore I don’t really mind anything. As far as I see it everything is an opportunity to get better. If there are handstand pushups or toes to bar ill just shut up and do it. I know Im not the best at a lot of things by any means, but I m just going to keep on moving and they will be done before I know it. But seriously though… I don’t like burpees, I will do them.. but I just don’t like them.

What are your goals?

I am a very competitive person, and all my life Ive always wanted to do something competitively. There are a lot of ways to do that in crossfit, but I would love to make it past the open and into regionals one day. Its crazy, and a long shot, but I was taught as I was growing up to not ever put a lid on what you think your capable of, so why not dream big??

What motivates you to continue coming back?

The idea of making myself better, I love the fact that if I really work hard at something I can achieve it. There are hard days, but if it were easy everyone would do it. But I think most of all I love the people. I love working out, I love lifting heavy stuff, but bottom line is I love the people at Rocktown. Ive never felt like more of a team and I just always feel welcomed and right at home, which is a good feeling.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

I love food, I love all kinds of food. I get to make food for a living, and it has allowed me to make and taste so many different amazing things, but if I had to narrow it down to just one meal I would have to say pizza! Give me a pizza with sausage, olives, peppers and wash it down with a good bourbon barrel stout and you got my all time favorite. Maybe end with a crème brulee?? Sounds about right.

In your own words what is Rocktown Crossfit?

Rocktown Crossfit is my home away from home. It is my sanctuary. No matter what happened the day before, work, bills, whatever it is, when I am at Rocktown, I am home, I am free from it all. I have always wanted a place where I can go and lift heavy things with people who share the same interest, with people who aren’t there for a social gathering, but for a great opportunity to better yourself and to have fun doing it.

Free Write: (anything you want to say about trainers/facilities/other athletes/etc)

If I haven’t made it clear I love the people here, but specifically I love the trainers! Nate and Lauren have always been so flexible with my schedule and so welcoming and easy to talk to I really couldn’t ask for more from two people. I look up to all the trainers, from all the tips and advice and to always getting a friendly hello when I walk in the door, these people rule!

Crossfit is like nothing I have ever done before, I will never train the same way, and Rocktown is the best place to do it! If your looking to get back on track, or if your ready to start something now is the time, Rocktown is the place! Don’t delay any longer, its time to hit your goals and to take control! A Note from the Rocktown Staff:

Jakob as out athlete of the month has been a long time coming!  Jake has overcome plenty of hurdles along the way to where he is now and his dedication and efforts to get better have not gone unnoticed.  As strong as Jakob may be he is typically your quiet guy, in the back just putting in work…not drawing attention with his nose to the grind stone.  While he may love to lift (300lb clean, 215lb snatch, 400lb back squat) his continued improvement in the gymnastics area have made him into a great all around crossfit athlete.  He has been a great ambassador for The Rock as now we have not 1 but 2 Naptoniks stomping around and we are very grateful to have you both (you too Reed!).  One think I love about Jakob is his ability to stay humble…he is the first one to encourage and cheer those on around him and while he continues to make tremendous strides he always knows that there is always room for improvement.  Congratulations Jakob on a job well done, we are very proud to call you one of Rocktown’s finest!
