June 2015: The Manimal

Chalk, sweat, toe shoes, and hairy arms…all characteristics of the Manimal

aaron1Meet Aaron!

Tell us about yourself (name, age, education, family, work, etc.)

Well hi.. My name is Aaron Napotnik.  I am 24 years old.  I went to ol’ Spotswood High, then Blue ridge Community College afterwards.  Planned on continuing my studies, but..  Ended up joining my father’s Paper Company oodles of years ago instead!  It’s practically Dunder Mifflin.  I’m practically Dwight…   I have 4 older brothers, all of which are married and most of which have all kinds of chillins running about. They’re presh.  I wish they would all workout at the Rock with me.. But 1 is better than none! I enjoy drinking fine craft beers and climbing frozen waterfalls. And long walks.. on.. a mountain, not the beach.  I hate sand.  Also, Dragon’s milk is my favorite.

How long have you been doing crossfit?

Well.. for a little while I was a closet Crossfitter at Gold’s Gym..  Secretly wanting to do it, but all my friend’s at Gold’s would judge me. Since I started, they all still judge me, but I don’t give a poot lololol..  It has been 1 year and 9ish months since I officially started!

When/what was your “crossfit moment” or have you had one? (the one where you think you may actually die)

I can’t remember the name of the workout or what was going on.. But It was when I first started around September/October 2013. I think it was some workout for some firemen that had just passed away, or something of that nature! Some kind of Hero Workout..  I remember getting all kinds of tunnel vision and feeling like I was literally on my deathbed.  But that’s how I always feel, so I’ve had a lot of those moments, in a good way though.  It’s a good kind of feeling like you’re about to die.

What are your favorite crossfit movements?

My favorites would probably be — Muscle Ups, Cleans, dragon’s milk, anything Overhead,  SQWATS, deadlifts, and pull ups.. Mmm..

What movement makes you look at the white board and want to walk back out the door?

Abmat situps… Toes to Bar,  High rep low weight snatches, running, and double unders!

What are your goals?

To make someone feel at home in the gym.  I don’t like seeing people feeling awkward or uncomfortable. Liftingwise my goals were to lift as heavy as possible and puff up to look like the Michelin Man.  But things have changed a bit, and I’m focusing on lifting safer and maintaining good form constantly.  And just getting stronger with more endurance around the not as heavy weights as usual. If that makes any sense…  And I need to just get my all around cardio better, lulz… I also have made it a goal to convince everyone that dragon’s milk is the best drink in the world.

What motivates you to continue coming back?

The people! ALL THE PEOPLES!! and I love pain..  I just love seeing all those smiling faces enduring the workouts everyday and cheering each other on!  Something about coming in and being surrounded by people with the same kind of health goals and lifestyle feeeels shooo guuuud..  I love the 515 & 615 class people, they’re all so epic and inspiring to workout with! I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to train beside!  And the coaches, always making me feel at home and encouraging the endless GAAAINZ!!! All the motivation a person would ever need to workout, AND MOAR!

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

I love donuts and ice cream.  Sometimes I even mix them together.  And SOMETIMES what I MIGHT do.. is — I get a few little chocolate donuts, mash them up in a bunch of vanilla ice cream, then I proceed to glop a ton of peanut butter on top, THEN I take a ton of regular potato chips and crunch them ALL OVER IT.. Then I use DRAGON’S MILK to turn it in to a float.

In your own words what is Rocktown Crossfit?

It’s home! It’s where all the peoples can come together as one and lift all the things!  That’s how I feel anyway, I feel like I’m with my family when I’m there.  I never want to leave..  It’s like life’s sanctuary there.  You can come in, forget about all the problems outside.  You come in, everyone is going to love on you, encourage you in your journey, and point you in the right direction.  So blessed to have joined this gym.  It WILL make you a better and stronger person, inside and out.

Free Write: (anything you want to say about trainers/facilities/other athletes/etc)

What a fantastic almost couple years it has been, and hopefully many more!  I just can’t really express how much the coaches and people of this gym mean to me! Everyone there I feel is like my family.  I’d take a bullet for everyone there, AT THE SAME TIME.  Seriously, best gym in Harrisonburg, sorry Gold’s, you’re great.. but.. doesn’t compare to The Rock!  If it weren’t for the Rock’s coaching, I’d still be doing bro-rep half range of motion pullups at Gold’s.. Ain’t no gainz to be had doing that. But anyway, I have never been one to really say a lot, I just want everyone there to know I love them.. I love them too much. You have all made my life more and more joyous everyday. CHEERS!!

A Note from the Rocktown Staff:

A-Aron!  Congrats!  We’ve been saving this for you until you came in every time that Handstand Pushups and Abmat Situps were prescribed in a workout and you finally came through! (just kidding…maybe).  After the post above there’s not much more to say…you have to be one of the strongest, yet most stubborn SOB’s I’ve met.  For those who don’t know, Aaron does not squat clean nor does he split jerk, yet he can clean/press 300lbs…I’m jealous to say the least.  But besides his brute strength and “improved” gymnastics you won’t meet a nicer guy.  Aaron is such light hearted guy to have in class….he keeps it light but knows how to work hard and is always encouraging of others.  What many don’t know is how many times he has helped folks outside the gym and will never accept any form of compensation, always says that friends don’t pay friends.  Aaron, thanks for making The Rock your home…the Kill Cliff is on Ice and the scales (pre and post workout) will be waiting for you tonight.

PS…if you leave your phone around good chance you’ll find one of these signature glamour shots waiting for you.
