trev aotm2Name: Trevor Parmer

Age: 43

Occupation: VP, BB&T Insurance Services

Family: me and my two boys (14, 16)

  1. How many years have you been CrossFitting?
    Two years in March.
  2. How many years have you done the Open?
    Last year only.
  3. Why did you choose to compete in the Open?
Seemed like a good goal to work towards, love competition and I was caught up in the energy at the Rock surrounding the anticipation of it.
  4. Were you able to do all the workouts?
I failed at the last one. I think it was Fran? I had tweaked my shoulder doing something else and it prevented me from doing the 5th workout, I was pretty disappointed because I was in the top 50th percentile of my age group. I did do all the others, but I think there was one or two I didn’t complete in the allotted time.
  5. What is your favorite part about the Open?
The energy at Rocktown during the Saturday and Sunday designated times for the Open was outstanding. Never ever in my wildest dreams did I think I’d enjoy working out in front of my peers, but it was awesome. Also the simple fact that it is the most difficult thing I’ve ever put my body through felt good (for lack of a better term).
  6. Are you going to compete again this year?
  7. Anything else you want to mention?
As Nike said, Just Do It. Especially because there is a scaled workout each week this year. You perform in the save haven that is Rocktown, not like being at SuperFit competition where you feel like you are on display. Also it sets a tone for the rest of 2015 for areas you need to improve. Don’t take yourself too seriously if haven’t been CrossFitting for long, be ok with failure and be encouraged by your successes. Don’t compare yourself to others (unless you want to – I will, haha) and be part of supporting your fellow Rocktown Athletes.
